GOODBYE WINTER

We had a couple of weeks of some really cold weather here in St. Marys. We are used to wearing flip flops and sandals through the winters, but not this year. Mother nature threw us a curve ball and made us pull out our winter coats! We are glad to see that the freezing nights and mornings are behind us. HURRY UP SPRING!
(The picture below is one of our Koi ponds frozen over on one of the cold mornings.)

ONE LAST LOOK!

We always tell our guest that Christmas is magical in downtown St. Marys. We hate to see the holidays go. Here's one last look of Christmas at Emma's before the decorations go down.

WELCOME BACK!

It has been quite sometime since our last post. We noticed that we weren't reaching very many people with the placement of the blog, so we moved it to our homepage in hopes to make it easier to find. Our plans with this blog are to inform you of our latest news and specials here at Emma's Bed and Breakfast!

August 12, 2008

As those of you who have stayed with us before know, we are constantly working, improving, changing, etc. our grounds. Four acres always requires maintenance somewhere! Well after numerous trips to Lowe’s (the first pump was too large, the tubing wasn’t the right size, the tubing wasn’t stiff enough, etc…you get the picture) our fountain is running. The birds love it! The plumbago were getting too large and taking over the bed behind the screen porch so we moved them around the fountain. It shouldn't’t take them long to be a mass of (what else but) PURPLE!!!

Last year we lost all of our large Koi, including the gorgeous yellow one pictured on our website. We had purchased him as a small fish ( maybe about 2 inches) when Jimmy built our first pond, about 12 years ago. Anyway, Jimmy kept saying he thought the otters were eating them. I kept telling him that I had never seen an otter in my 47 years of living in downtown. Well, as much as I hate to admit it, Jimmy was PROBABLY right. We were serving breakfast Sunday morning (June 8, 2008), when three otters came swimming in our small pond. It was really fun watching them frolic around. After their swim they walked back across the yard to the tidal creek that runs through our property.

Just the morning before, Jimmy watched a raccoon and her 4 babies come out of the woods in our yard. And of course, we love the bunnies that come out to feed. On Sunday (June 8, 2008) we had three right outside of the dining room window.

The picture isn't great, but this is the owl that Natalie spotted at the edge of our property.

So needless to say, we have been loving our little "Backyard Wildlife Habitat" lately. And as always, our guest are enjoying the faithful birds and & squirrels around the back porch.

June 16,2008

On April 15, 2008, we celebrated our third year as Emma's Bed and Breakfast. We have had some absolutely wonderful guest. Jimmy & I have found that being innkeepers is very rewarding and we are so honored when our guest return again and again and tell their family, friends & coworkers about us. That is certainly our greatest compliment!

We wanted to create a newsletter to keep everyone updated on..."What's Happening at Emma's", so here you have it.

The hydrangeas are in full bloom and gorgeous. Of course, I am kind of partial to them because they are shades of purple.

We are always learning and trying to improve Emma's. One thing we discovered is our guest love riding bicycles around town. St. Marys is so perfect to explore by bike, so we have added 4 brand new bicycles for the riding pleasure of our guest. We can't tell you how many times we've heard "I haven't ridden a bike in years!" Well, it's one of those things you never forget!
